What is the AI ORA™ survey?

AI ORA™ is an organisational readiness and execution assessment for AI. It runs across all levels of your organisation simultaneously: employees, managers, and leadership, to measure where the business is ready to execute on AI and where the gaps are. The assessment covers AI confidence, capability, communication, culture, governance, and strategic alignment, from the perspective of both leadership and all people across the organisation. The findings are delivered as a structured report with scores across each of these areas, a measure of the gap between leadership intent and employee experience, and a clear set of priorities for action.

Why is my company doing this?

Your organisation has commissioned AI ORA™ because leadership wants a clear, independent and honest picture of how AI is being experienced across the business — not just what's assumed to be in place. The results will be used to inform decisions about how the company supports its people in using AI more confidently and more effectively. This is about understanding the current state accurately so that future investment goes in the right direction.

Who is AI ORA™ and why is my company using them rather than doing this internally?

AI ORA™ is a product of ORA Benchmarking Ltd., a New Zealand-based organisational readiness benchmarking company. It is built in partnership with Best Places to Work NZ™, which brings 25 years of experience in workplace assessment. Your company is using AI ORA™ rather than running an internal survey because an independent assessment helps to ensure a safe and confidential environment for you to share your thoughts and feedback. Because AI ORA™ sits outside your organisation, you can feel free to respond more candidly, which in turn will produce more objective and useful findings.

Who designed the survey and what does it actually measure?

The survey was designed by ORA Benchmarking Ltd., drawing on decades of experience in workplace assessment and organisational change, alongside published research from McKinsey, Prosci, BCG, Deloitte, and MIT Sloan. It measures readiness across six areas:

how clearly leadership has set the direction on AI; 
whether people have the skills and confidence to use AI in their roles; 
how AI governance and trust are understood across the organisation; 
how well change and communication around AI has been managed; 
the culture and mindset around AI adoption; 
how confidently people make decisions that involve AI.

The same core questions are asked at every level, which allows the findings to show where there are alignment and gaps between leadership, managers, and employees.

Do I have to complete the survey?

Participation is encouraged but not compulsory. Your organisation is running this assessment to better support its people and to set them up for success. For that, an honest picture of where things stand is important, and that picture is only complete when as many people as possible take part. The more people who respond, the more representative and useful the findings are. But the decision to participate is yours.

What if I don't use AI at work at all?

That's fine, and your perspective is just as useful as someone who uses AI every day. The survey is designed to capture the full range of experience across the organisation, including people who haven't engaged with AI tools yet. Responses from people at all levels of familiarity are part of what makes the findings meaningful. You don't need any prior knowledge of AI to complete it.

Is my response confidential?

Yes. Your individual responses are never shared with your employer or anyone else. Results are reported as patterns across the organisation as a whole, not what any specific person said. Where results are broken out by team, role or other groups, those breakouts are only reported when the group is large enough to protect individual confidentiality. You cannot be identified from the findings.

Can my employer see what I personally answered?

No. Your employer receives a report that shows summary findings across leadership, managers, and employees. They do not receive individual responses. AI ORA™ does not provide individual-level data to organisations under any circumstances.

Question 9

What is the minimum number of responses before results are shared?

Accepted Answer

Results for any group are only included in reporting once a minimum threshold of 5 responses has been reached. This applies to departments, levels, and the organisation as a whole. The threshold exists specifically to ensure that no individual can ever be identified from the findings, even indirectly.

What data does the survey actually collect?

Accepted Answer

The survey collects your responses to a set of questions about AI at work. It does not collect your name, your job title, email or any information that would identify you as an individual. All employees respond to a common link to access the survey so there is no data being collected to identify you as an individual.

How is my data stored and who has access to it?

Accepted Answer

Survey responses are stored securely by AI ORA™ and are not shared with your employer or any third party. AI ORA™ uses your responses only to produce the aggregate findings in your organisation's report. Individual response data is not sold, shared, or used for any other purpose.

Will my responses affect my performance review or any other internal assessment?

Accepted Answer

No. This survey is completely separate from any internal performance process. Your responses are not shared with your manager, your HR team, or anyone else in the organisation in a form that could be linked back to you. Completing or not completing the survey has no bearing on any performance assessment. That being said, by completing the survey, you have a great opportunity to voice your views, experiences and needs so your leadership can support you better.

How long does the survey take?

Around 15 minutes for most people. The questions are straightforward — they ask about your experience and perspective, not your knowledge of AI. There are no right or wrong answers.

Can I complete the survey on my phone or tablet?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The survey works on any device — desktop, laptop, phone, or tablet. You do not need to install anything.

Question 15

Can I save my progress and come back to the survey later?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but you need to use the Save and Continue option before closing the survey. When you're ready to pause, look for the Save and Continue option and enter your name and email address. The system will send you a unique link to return to exactly where you left off. Your name and email are used only to generate that link — they are not stored with your responses and your confidentiality is fully maintained.

If you close the survey without saving first, your progress will be lost and you will need to start again from the beginning. If you don't receive the return email after saving, check your junk or spam folder, or contact the person in your organisation who shared the survey link with you.

When will I receive my survey link?

Your organisation will share a single survey link with everyone participating — it's the same link for all employees. Watch for it through your internal channels (such as email, Teams, or Slack) on the date your organisation has set for the survey to open. If you're unsure when that is, check with whoever communicated the survey to you.

How long is the survey open for?

Your organisation's survey window is confirmed with your organisation's chosen date. Typically the survey is open for 2 to 3 weeks. The person who communicated the survey to you will be able to tell you the specific dates for your organisation's survey.

Can employees with accessibility needs complete the survey?

Yes. The AI ORA™ assessment is built on an accessible survey theme, meeting WCAG 2.2 AA standards for most question types. This includes compatibility with widely used screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver on iOS, and TalkBack on Android), full keyboard-only operation, colour-blind-friendly design with strong colour contrast, and support for browser zoom up to 400%.
The question types used in AI ORA™, including multiple choice, Likert scales, and single-text responses, are among those rated as fully WCAG 2.2 AA compliant. No special request or separate link is needed. Every participant accesses the same survey.

Question 19

Is there anything an employee should know before starting the survey with a screen reader?

A couple of practical tips help. At the start of each page, we recommend going through all the questions first using the headings shortcut (H or the number 3 key) before answering. This gives an overview of what's on the page and avoids some quirks that can occur when working in forms mode.
The survey is structured into short pages. If the employee needs to pause and return, the Save and Continue feature works with screen readers. They'll be prompted to enter an email address to receive a return link, and that address is not linked to their survey responses in any way.
Where possible, a desktop browser is the better choice for screen reader users. Firefox with NVDA or Chrome with JAWS are the most reliable combinations. The survey works on mobile, but the desktop experience is more consistent for assistive technology users.

What if an employee has other accessibility requirements?

Will I get to see the results?

The summary report will be delivered to your leadership team by email within a week of the survey closing. We encourage leadership teams, once they have reviewed and digested the information, to take employees on the journey of insights and action planning.

What does the report actually include?

Accepted Answer

The report shows your organisation's scored findings across six readiness domains, an analysis of where alignment between leadership and employees is strong or breaks down, and a set of sequenced priority actions. No individual responses are included. Findings are presented at the organisation level, with breakdowns by level and segment where group size is sufficient to protect individual anonymity.

What happens after the survey closes?

AI ORA™ analyses the responses and prepares the report. Your organisation's report is delivered to the person who organised the survey on behalf of your company. The preparation of the report and analysis process will take a few weeks after the survey closes.
